Ischia at sunset

The best sunsets on Ischia: where to watch them

Ischia faces west — sunset is at home here. From Citara beach to the Serrara Fontana belvedere, these are the best places to watch it.

The best sunsets on Ischia: where to watch them

01

Citara beach (Forio)

A wide west-facing bay with golden sand. The sun drops straight into the sea. An aperitivo at one of the beach kiosks is almost a ritual.

02

Chiesa del Soccorso (Forio)

A small white church on a rock spur above the sea. A 180° view of the horizon. One of the most photographed sunset spots in Italy.

03

Belvedere di Serrara Fontana

High on the island's southern ridge. A view that takes in Sant'Angelo, Capri, Vesuvius. Ideal if you have a car.

04

Lacco Ameno seafront

Sunset here is more intimate: the sun sets behind Forio, the Fungo stands in silhouette. A glass outdoors and you have the right seat.

05

Monte Epomeo

789 metres, the island's peak. Those who hike up at sunset get one of the Mediterranean's most memorable panoramas — the whole gulf of Naples below.
