Ischia's villages

Sant'Angelo d'Ischia: the island's most photographed fishing village

Sant'Angelo is a hamlet of Serrara Fontana, on Ischia's south coast. A handful of coloured houses clinging to a headland, a small harbour, a sand isthmus connecting the village to the Rock. No cars.

Sant'Angelo d'Ischia: the island's most photographed fishing village

01

Why it's special

Sant'Angelo is car-free: you arrive on foot from a parking lot above, or by sea. That single rule has preserved its human scale: sloping lanes, small shops, waterside restaurants, geraniums at the windows.

02

The Rock (La Torre)

The tuff headland that shelters the village. Once an island, now joined by the sand tombolo of the isthmus. A scenic path leads up.

03

The piazzetta

The heart of the village. Shaded tables, the town clock, the noise of the small harbour. You sit for a coffee, or a long aperitivo.

04

The beaches around

West: the small cove of Cava Grado. East: the long Maronti beach with its thermal sands. By boat you reach coves that can't be walked to.

05

How to get there from Lacco Ameno

By car, 25–30 minutes via Serrara Fontana. By local bus lines CS/CD, which loop the whole island. In summer a taxi-boat service runs from Lacco Ameno's harbour.
