The Ischia coast
The best beaches of Ischia: a local's guide
Ischia has around 40 km of coastline and every stretch has its own character: dark-sand bays, pebble coves, thermal beaches where the water stays warm even in winter. These are the ones worth knowing.

01
San Montano (Lacco Ameno)
A crescent bay, sheltered from wind, with clear water and gently sloping sand. Excellent for families. Home to the Negombo thermal park. A few minutes from central Lacco Ameno.
02
Spiaggia dei Maronti (Barano)
The island's longest beach: about 3 km of dark sand on the south coast. Ideal for barefoot walks. In some spots (the Fumarole) the sand is naturally hot — fishermen used to cook fish in it.
03
Sant'Angelo and Cava Grado
The cove next to Sant'Angelo village, reachable on foot or by boat. Turquoise water, intimate setting, quietly exclusive.
04
Citara (Forio)
A wide west-facing bay with golden sand and some of Ischia's most famous sunsets. Home to the Giardini Poseidon, the largest thermal park in Europe.
05
Sorgeto (Panza)
A pebble cove where underground thermal springs heat the sea itself. Natural hot bath — best at day's end or in winter.
06
San Francesco (Forio)
Pale sand, open sea, a wilder stretch of coast. Great for sunset.
