Lacco Ameno · Ischia
What to see in Lacco Ameno in one day
Ischia's smallest village is also its oldest: in the 8th century BC the Greeks founded Pithecusae here — the first colony in the West. A day is enough to understand it, if you walk slowly.

01
The Fungo, morning
The green-tuff sea stack known as Il Fungo rises a few metres from the shore, in front of the small harbour. In the morning the light is soft and fishermen come back with the catch. Most visitors start here: a photo, an espresso on the corso, a walk along Lungomare Peschiera around the bay.
02
Santa Restituta and the excavations
Beneath the basilica of Santa Restituta lies one of Ischia's densest archaeological digs: Greek foundations, a necropolis, a Roman thermal complex, early Christian basins. Ten metres of layered island memory.
03
Corso Angelo Rizzoli
The main corso is pedestrian, elegant, short. It is named after the publisher who, in the 1950s, turned Lacco Ameno into a stage for Italian cinema. Artisan shops, ceramics, historic gelaterie, seafood restaurants on the water — including La Cantina del Mare, at number 20.
04
Villa Arbusto, afternoon
Five minutes on foot, Angelo Rizzoli's former villa now houses the Pithecusae Archaeological Museum. Its most famous piece is Nestor's Cup (8th c. BC), one of the earliest surviving inscriptions in the Greek alphabet. The villa's park, overlooking the sea, is worth the visit on its own.
05
San Montano Bay, late afternoon
Just outside the centre, San Montano Bay opens up — sheltered and translucent — home to the Negombo thermal park. A warm-water finish to the afternoon before returning to town for aperitivo.
06
Evening on the corso
After sunset Lacco Ameno slows down. A glass of Biancolella, the day's catch, waves under the harbour lights. This is when the island stops being a destination and becomes a place where you simply are.
